Texel

April 22, 2018

Often some ideas for typography come from unused / unloved concepts presented and ultimately rejected. Texel is one of these typefaces.

Based on the brutalist, geometric forms of bunkers this solid typeface feels like an armoured tank- no hint of a curve through the entire character set instead opting for 45 degree angles and squared off terminals. Because of the strict grid the typeface follows addition horizontal stokes on the ‘E’ and ‘F’ and the curious stacked forms on ‘B’,’P’ and ‘X’.

This typeface was inspired by the works of Jurriaan Schrofer and more contemporary designers like Guðmundur Úlfarsson & Mads Freund Brunse of Or Type. Please visit Or Type and buy their typefaces – they are pretty amazing.
